Popular actors Sudhaa Chandran and Amar Upadhyay are set to star in a new show called “Doree.” The makers unveiled the first promo on the International Day of the Girl Child. The show introduces the main characters: Doree, Ganga Prasad, and Kailashi Devi.
Doree’s first promo
“Doree” tells the story of a six-year-old girl, Doree, who lives with her foster father, Ganga Prasad, in the Bunkar mohalla of Banaras. Ganga Prasad is a dedicated father who raises Doree with strong values, using creative solutions to ensure she doesn’t feel deprived.
The show features Sudhaa Chandran as Kailashi Devi, Amar Upadhyay as Ganga Prasad, and child actor Mahi Bhanushali as young Doree. In the promo, we see Doree helping her physically challenged father fold a saree. She asks him who left her in the sacred Ganges, and he replies that those who did were unfortunate.
While Ganga Prasad cherishes having a daughter, Kailashi Devi, who rules Varanasi’s handloom empire, considers daughters unworthy. She upholds a traditional, patriarchal view, in contrast to Doree’s progressive beliefs in gender equality. The clash of these two ideologies will make for an intriguing storyline.
