To promote greater utilization of the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (NMP) among the States and Union Territories (UTs), the Logistics Division of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, conducts weekly meetings. These meetings involve discussions with nodal officers and representatives from different States and UTs to assess their progress in asset mapping and project planning using the National Master Plan.
A review meeting for the North Zone States and UTs was recently held in virtual mode, chaired by Ms. Sumita Dawra, Special Secretary (Logistics) at DPIIT. The meeting witnessed active participation from Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttarakhand. Ms. Dawra commended the States and UTs for their efforts and requested presentations on the use cases that have emerged from their work.
During the meeting, the Special Secretary (Logistics) encouraged the North Zone States and UTs to leverage the PM GatiShakti SMP (State Master Plan) for area development. She suggested conducting a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) Analysis to identify gaps in social, infrastructure, and logistics for area development planning. Addressing the challenge of first- and last-mile connectivity, especially in hilly terrain, was highlighted as a key benefit of using PM GatiShakti NMP to plan infrastructure and social sector projects. This approach is expected to enhance ease of doing business, ease of living, and ease of service delivery, thus attracting increased business investments and tourism.
Ms. Dawra emphasized the importance of adopting a ‘Whole of Government’ approach that breaks down departmental silos, particularly in developing the ‘Vibrant Village’ concept in Northern States like Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and the Union Territory of Ladakh.
Furthermore, she highlighted that, in line with the guiding principles of the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, the NMP will provide multimodal connectivity for socio-economic development, facilitating area development, and improving first and last-mile connectivity to remote areas for efficient service delivery.
