Ramban(Jammu & Kashmir): On the 11th of January, Dr. Jitendra Singh said, “With the help of Pradhanmantri AyushmanBharat Yojana, patients in the far-flung hilly region of district Ramban in Jammu and Kashmir are getting treated with the best of technical and medical support.

The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (lit. The Ayushman Bharat National Health Protection Scheme (NHPS), also referred to as the Prime Minister’s People’s Health Scheme (PM-JAY), is a national public health insurance fund of the Government of India that aims to provide free access to health insurance coverage for low-income earners in the country.

Approximately half of the population is eligible for this program. A family doctor provides primary care services to people using the program. If anyone needs additional care, PM-JAY provides free secondary health care for those needing specialist treatment and tertiary health care for those requiring hospitalization.

The program is part of the Indian government’s National Health Policy and is income-based. It was launched in September 2018 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The National Health Authority was later established as an organization to administer the program by that ministry. It is a jointly funded scheme by both the union government and the states. It is the world’s largest government-sponsored healthcare program, offering services to 50 crores (500 million) people. The program is designed to help people with low incomes in India.
