Dr. S. Jaishankar, the External Affairs Minister of India, has extended warm congratulations to Dr. Mohammed Hasan Mahmud on his appointment as the (FM) Foreign Minister of Bangladesh. Jaishankar expressed optimism for enhanced collaboration to deepen the longstanding friendship between India and Bangladesh, known as “Maitri.”

Dr. Hasan Mahmud brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having previously served as the Minister of Information and Broadcasting in the previous term. Before this, he held the portfolio of Minister of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change from 2009 to 2014, showcasing his commitment to environmental and sustainable development issues.

His political journey also includes serving as the State Minister for Foreign Affairs, reflecting a comprehensive understanding of diplomatic affairs. Dr. Hasan Mahmud’s diverse background and previous ministerial roles position him well to contribute effectively to the foreign affairs landscape.

The Cabinet Division of Bangladesh recently issued a gazette allocating responsibilities among the new cabinet members, formalizing Dr. Hasan Mahmud’s role as the Foreign Minister. The cabinet members, appointed by the Awami League, took the oath of office at the Bangabhaban, with President Mohammed Shahabuddin administering the oath to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her council of ministers.
