Dr. S. Jaishankar, India’s esteemed Minister of External Affairs, has conveyed his heartfelt greetings to FM Zheenbek Kulubaev and the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic on the occasion of their Independence Day. In a message underscoring the strength of their strategic partnership and historical affiliations, Dr. Jaishankar highlighted the deep-rooted ties that bind the two nations.
The Independence Day of Kyrgyzstan, celebrated annually on August 31st, holds immense significance as the main state holiday in the country. This date marks the anniversary of Kyrgyzstan’s declaration of independence in 1991, a momentous occasion that solidified the nation’s status as an independent state.
“Kyrgyzstan’s path to independence was marked by a historic declaration on August 31, 1991, by the Supreme Council of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan. This marked the official transition to an independent state, aligning with international law and emphasizing cooperation among peoples. Subsequently, a constitution was adopted in 1993, evolving over time to shape the nation’s governance”.
Despite facing challenges including two revolutions and changes in leadership, Kyrgyzstan’s determination to maintain its sovereignty remains steadfast. The annual Independence Day celebrations are a vibrant reflection of the nation’s resilience and spirit. Ala-Too Square became a hub of cultural festivities, attracting thousands of spectators and dignitaries, including the President, Prime Minister, and other political figures.
The day’s events encompass a diverse array of activities, from theatrical portrayals of historical figures pivotal to Kyrgyz statehood to performances by traditional dance ensembles and renowned pop artists. The ceremony culminates with the entrance of the national colors and the stirring rendition of the National Anthem by a choir and symphonic orchestra.
