The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has successfully facilitated the export of India’s first ready-to-drink fig juice made from GI-tagged Purandar Figs to Poland. Flagged off by APEDA Chairman Shri Abhishek Dev on August 1, 2024, the shipment departed from Hamburg Port in Germany.

Milestone Export

This historic shipment marks a significant milestone in promoting India’s unique agro-products on the global stage. The fig juice, produced by Purandar Highlands Farmers Producer Company Ltd., represents a major innovation in the agricultural sector.

Global Recognition

The fig juice first gained international attention at the SIAL 2023 trade show in Greater Noida, where it won an award. It was also showcased at Macfrut 2024 in Rimini, Italy, receiving positive feedback and leading to an inquiry from Poland’s MG Sales SP.

APEDA’s Role

APEDA has been pivotal in supporting the development and export of this product. Since the first export of GI-tagged Purandar Figs in 2022, APEDA has worked closely with smallholder farmers, contributing to the product’s success and global expansion.

Future Prospects

This achievement showcases the promise of Indian agro-products and emphasizes the critical role of research and development in advancing agricultural exports. It also emphasizes the role of Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) in promoting sustainable farming practices and international trade.
