Droupadi Murmu, Addresses the 45th Convocation at Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith

Today, on December 11, 2023, the President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, graced the 45th convocation of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith in Varanasi. During her address, the President highlighted the institution’s rich heritage, noting the association of two Bharat Ratna recipients, Dr. Bhagwan Das and former Prime Minister Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, with the Vidyapith.

President Murmu emphasized the significance of adopting the life values of Shastri ji in the conduct of the students. She traced the Vidyapith’s journey, which began 26 years before India’s independence, aligning with the ideals of self-reliance and Swaraj envisioned by Mahatma Gandhi. The President underscored the Vidyapith’s role as a living symbol of the nation’s freedom struggle, with its students being regarded as flag bearers of the ideals of that era.

Naming the institution Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith was highlighted by the President as a gesture of respect for the freedom struggle’s ideals. She urged students to follow these principles, contributing effectively to the country’s progress during the Amrit Kaal, thus paying a true tribute to the founders of the Vidyapith and the nation-building process.

President Murmu acknowledged Varanasi’s historical significance as a center of Indian knowledge tradition and stressed the continued contribution of institutions in the city to the promotion of modern knowledge and science. She encouraged the students and teachers of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith to uphold the tradition of being a center of knowledge, enriching the glory of their institution.
