The National Center for Seismology (NCS) has issued a report stating that an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.7 on the Richter scale struck the West Kameng region of Arunachal Pradesh on March 21, 2024. The seismic event occurred at 01:49:54 Indian Standard Time (IST), with its epicenter pinpointed at latitude 27.38 and longitude 92.77.
According to the NCS, the earthquake originated at a depth of 10 kilometers beneath the Earth’s surface. Despite its relatively low magnitude, such seismic activity can still be felt by residents in the affected area.
The West Kameng district, nestled in the northeastern part of India, is no stranger to seismic events due to its location within a seismically active zone. Earthquakes are a natural phenomenon in this region, often attributed to the movement of the Indian tectonic plate.
Fortunately, there have been no reports of significant damage or casualties resulting from this earthquake. However, the NCS advises residents and authorities to remain vigilant and prepared for any potential aftershocks that may follow.
Seismologists continually monitor seismic activity across the country to provide timely warnings and gather data for research purposes. Understanding the behavior of earthquakes is crucial for developing effective disaster preparedness and mitigation strategies.
