The Election Commission of India (ECI) stands as a beacon of electoral integrity and transparency, exemplifying its commitment to conducting general elections of the highest standards. In its ongoing endeavor to share democratic excellence with the global community, the ECI is hosting the Election Visitors’ Programme (IEVP) during the Lok Sabha Elections 2024.
This unprecedented event, distinguished by its scale and magnitude of participation, welcomes 75 delegates from 23 countries to witness India’s electoral process firsthand. Representing Electoral Management Bodies (EMBs) and organizations, delegates from Bhutan to Namibia converge to learn from India’s democratic journey.
The list of participating countries includes Bhutan, Mongolia, Australia, Madagascar, Fiji, and more, showcasing the program’s global reach. Additionally, members from the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and media teams from Bhutan and Israel add to the diverse delegation.
Commencing on May 4th, the IEVP aims to acquaint foreign EMBs with India’s electoral intricacies and best practices. On May 5th, esteemed figures such as Chief Election Commissioner Shri Rajiv Kumar, Election Commissioner Shri Gyanesh Kumar, and Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu will address the delegates, shedding light on India’s electoral landscape.
Following the inaugural sessions, delegates will embark on visits to six states—Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh—where they will observe polling activities and assess preparedness in various constituencies. The program culminates on May 9th, 2024, marking a significant step in promoting global electoral cooperation and understanding.
