Today, the internet has become an inextricable part of our lives, and it is irrespective of our age, profession, or field. We use the internet in many different ways. teenagers are the biggest contributors to internet use for everyday needs and entertainment. The increasing number of teenagers who are finding their way towards the internet has certainly become a topic of concern, as well as fear, for their parents who today have the least control over the type of content their kids are exposed to. It is high time that we regulate the extent of internet exposure provided to our children, with virtual relationships and friendships given more relevance over the real ones.
The internet is a global phenomenon that has changed the way we communicate, work, and entertain ourselves. It has also had a profound effect on teenagers, who are some of the most active users of the internet.
–There are both positive and negative effects of the internet on teenagers:-
Teens are discouraged from spending too much time on the internet because it can be addictive. Once a teenager becomes addicted to social networking websites and adult content on the internet, it is needless to say that their social and academic skills will be largely affected. children who spend more time on the internet as compared to the time spent with their friends and families become recluse as they grow. Not only do they start losing internet in their studies, but they also become a target of social stigma, which weighs an individual’s worth and calibre on the basis of the marks obtained by them.
New internet users often see it as a playground where they can explore and try new things. This can lead to addiction and them drifting towards exploring different stuff on the internet, which involves several chatting websites and content that can leave a deep impression on their young as well as developing minds. Not to forget the impact it has on their academic and social lives, teenagers are seen getting into relationships with people they hardly know on the internet and thus start the trauma which these young people should not go through at this age.
However, the internet also has its own set of positives. The internet contains a vast amount of information that teenagers can use to their advantage for academic purposes. Staying informed about everything that is happening around the world will help them stay connected with the outside world.
In simple words say that internet is good for teenagers if its use is regulated and they are taught about the positives and negatives from the beginning. They should be told not to make it an addiction. Internet is never a necessity, but it is needful for academic growth and social development.
