The Election Commission (EC) has revealed that the eagerly awaited schedule for the upcoming Lok Sabha and state Assembly elections will be disclosed on Saturday. This announcement comes amidst heightened anticipation as the nation gears up for the electoral process.
A press conference is scheduled to be held at 3 pm on Saturday, where the Commission will officially unveil the dates for the elections. With the term of the 17th Lok Sabha set to conclude on June 16, and the terms of the Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, and Sikkim assemblies ending on June 11, June 2, June 24, and June 2, respectively, the timing of the announcement holds significant importance.
The EC’s decision to disclose the schedule follows closely on the heels of the recent appointment of election commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, who have now joined Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar to form the three-member Commission. Their appointment, made by the President on Thursday, underscores the EC’s commitment to ensuring a robust and inclusive electoral process.
In the previous election cycle, the EC unveiled the poll schedule on March 10, 2019. The schedule included polling conducted across seven phases from April 11 to May 19, with the counting of votes taking place on May 23. This time around, with the nation eagerly awaiting the electoral roadmap, all eyes are set on tomorrow’s press conference, where the EC will set the stage for yet another significant chapter in India’s democratic journey.
