Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and a five-time Member of Parliament (MP) has secured his sixth term in the Parliament by winning the Vidisha constituency by a record margin of 8,17,479 votes. According to the latest update from the Election Commission of India (ECI), Chouhan garnered over 10 lakh votes, leading Indian National Congress (INC) Pratapbhandu Sharma who secured 11 lakh votes.
Chouhan’s Political Career
Shivraj Singh Chouhan was at the forefront of the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP)’s campaigning as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh during the Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Elections in 2023. Although he was overlooked for another term as the CM, with the party deciding to make Mohan Yadav the CM, Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s political career continues to flourish.
Expectations for Chouhan’s Role in the Central Cabinet
With Shivraj Singh Chouhan set to return to the Parliament, it is anticipated that the seasoned leader will be entrusted with a significant role in the central cabinet if the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secures a majority in the Lok Sabha elections under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
BJP’s Performance in Madhya Pradesh
Despite struggling to cross the 300-seat mark, the BJP has found solace in Madhya Pradesh, where it maintains a lead in all 29 Lok Sabha seats. The party has already secured victories in two seats, with the Indore Lok Sabha Seat being a notable highlight. Shankar Lalwani, the BJP candidate, won by a record margin of 11,75,092 votes, with the result status declared on the ECI portal.
