On the 11th of August, “Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister, Keshav Prasad Maurya, has recently emphasized the state government’s commitment to empowering women through self-help groups. These groups have taken on the task of creating flags, contributing to their financial self-reliance, and fostering a sense of pride and achievement”.
A remarkable 14,421 women from 2,325 self-help groups across the state are involved in this initiative. Their dedication and hard work have led to the creation of an impressive 15 lakh flags. These flags serve as a representation of both their craftsmanship and their determination to contribute to their communities and the economy.
“The impact of this initiative goes beyond just flag production. With over 2.47 lakh flags distributed in the government sector and 3.86 lakh flags in the private sector, the women of self-help groups are actively participating in the supply chain and making their mark in both public and private enterprises. This not only contributes to their economic well-being but also strengthens their role in various sectors of the economy”.
The Deputy Chief Minister’s announcement that the flags produced by these self-help groups have already generated a revenue of more than Rs 99 lakh is a testament to the success and potential of the initiative. The government’s support for women’s self-reliance and economic empowerment is not only commendable but also sets an inspiring example for other states to follow.
“By engaging women in meaningful and productive activities, the Uttar Pradesh government is fostering a sense of self-reliance and confidence among these women. The flag-making initiative not only provides a source of income but also promotes skill development and entrepreneurship among the members of self-help groups”.
