Exercise Harimau Shakti 2023 Strengthens Indian-Malaysian Army Ties

The joint bilateral training exercise, “Exercise Harimau Shakti 2023,” between the Indian and Malaysian Army, has officially kicked off in Umroi Cantonment, India. The Malaysian Army’s contingent comprises troops from the 5th Royal Battalion of the Malaysian Army, while the Indian contingent is represented by a battalion of THE RAJPUT REGIMENT.

Enhancing Military Capabilities for Multi-Domain Operations

This edition of Exercise Harimau Shakti, scheduled until November 5, 2023, involves approximately 120 personnel from both sides. The primary objective is to enhance military capabilities for conducting Multi-Domain Operations in a sub-conventional scenario. During the exercise, both contingents will establish a Joint Command Post and create an integrated surveillance grid, along with a Joint Surveillance Centre.

Training Across Diverse Environments

The exercise will include training on the employment of joint forces in jungle, semi-urban, and urban environments. It will also cover intelligence collection, collation, and dissemination drills, featuring the use of Drones/UAVs and helicopters. Furthermore, casualty management and evacuation drills will be practiced. Both contingents will engage in discussions on logistics management and survival training at the battalion level.

Emphasizing Physical Fitness and Tactical Drills

The training primarily focuses on achieving a high level of physical fitness, the execution of tactical drills, and the sharing of best practices between the two armies. The exercise will culminate with a rigorous 48-hour validation exercise in a semi-urban area.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

“Exercise HARIMAU SHAKTI” aims to bolster the level of defense cooperation between the Indian Army and the Malaysian Army. Additionally, it will contribute to fostering stronger bilateral relations between the two nations, further enhancing their partnership and collaboration.
