Expanding Opportunities: MoU between DGR and IBM for Ex-Servicemen Employment

The Directorate General of Resettlement (DGR), operating under the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare within the Ministry of Defense, has taken a significant step towards ensuring the continued participation of ex-servicemen in defense-related work. This progressive initiative comes in the form of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the renowned private company, IBM. Through this collaboration, highly skilled ex-servicemen will have the opportunity to secure employment in the private sector, fostering their professional growth and contributing to the nation’s development.

Understanding the MoU

Enhancing Ex-Servicemen Employment

The MoU between DGR and IBM aims to address the employment needs of ex-servicemen by providing them with valuable opportunities in the private sector. IBM, a global leader in technology and innovation, will take on the responsibility of selecting, training, developing, and employing these veterans. This strategic partnership allows for the seamless transition of ex-servicemen into civilian roles, leveraging their diverse skills and experiences to benefit the private sector.

Empowering Skilled Ex-Servicemen

By collaborating with IBM, the DGR recognizes the immense potential and capabilities of ex-servicemen. Many veterans possess a wide range of specialized skills and expertise acquired during their military service. The MoU aims to leverage these skills and provide ex-servicemen with meaningful employment opportunities that align with their capabilities, ensuring their continued professional growth and utilization of their valuable knowledge.

Driving Successful Employment Outcomes

Achievements in Ex-Servicemen Employment

In the last year, from April 2022 to March 2023, the efforts of DGR, along with partnerships like the one with IBM, have yielded remarkable results. A total of 24,234 ex-servicemen secured excellent employment across various sectors. This significant number showcases the effectiveness of initiatives aimed at supporting ex-servicemen’s transition into civilian life and their integration into the workforce.

Meeting the Demand for Skilled Talent

With approximately 60,000 soldiers retiring or being discharged each year, the Indian defense forces maintain a youthful and agile composition. The MoU between DGR and IBM helps bridge the gap between skilled talent demand in the private sector and the availability of highly trained ex-servicemen. By offering employment opportunities to these veterans, the agreement not only benefits the ex-servicemen but also provides organizations with access to a pool of experienced and disciplined professionals.
