Gareth Frank Bale, a professional footballer who plays as a winger for Major League Soccer club Los Angeles FC and the Wales national team, was born on 16 July 1989. One of the greatest Welsh players of all time, he is widely regarded as one of the greatest wingers of his generation. Playing as a left-back, Bale started his professional career at Southampton.
He was known for his free-kick specialist skills. In 2007, an eventual £7 million fee moved Bale to Tottenham Hotspur. He transformed into a more attacking player during his time at Tottenham due to managerial and tactical shifts. Bale became an integral part of the team under the guidance of Harry Redknapp in the 2009-2010 season and rose to international attention during the 2010-2011 UEFA Champions League.
He was named PFA Players’ Player of the Year in 2011 and 2013 and was named the UEFA Team of the Year. He was also named PFA Young Player of the Year in 2013, the FWA Footballer of the Year, and the Premier League Player of the Season. Between 2011 and 2013, he was nominated for the PFA Team of the Year three times in a row.
Early Life and career:-
Bale was born to Frank, a school caretaker, and Debbie Bale, an operations manager in Cardiff, Wales. He attended Eglwys Newydd Primary School in Whitchurch and is the nephew of former Cardiff City footballer Chris Pike.
He first came to the attention of Southampton at age nine while playing in a six-a-side tournament with his first club, Cardiff Civil Service. His footballing hero, while he was growing up, was Ryan Giggs, a fellow Welshman who played for Manchester United. Whitchurch High School in Cardiff is where Bale attended.
He was a keen athlete; he played football, rugby, and hockey and excelled at athletics alongside future Wales rugby captain Sam Warburton. He says that when he was 14, he ran the 100-meter sprint in 11.4 seconds.
Because of his superior footballing skill, the school’s PE teacher, Gwyn Morris, had to write special rules which restricted Bale from playing one-touch football and not using his left foot. Bale, who was only 16 at the time, helped the school’s under-18 team win the Cardiff & Vale Senior Cup.
He left school in the summer of 2005 with a Grade A in PE amongst other GCSE results. Gareth Frank Bale was awarded the PE department’s prize for services to sport in his final year at school.
