General Elections 2024: The first phase of the General Elections 2024 unfolded with a spectacular display of civic responsibility as voters braved the sweltering heat to cast their ballots. Across 10 States/UTs, polling stations buzzed with activity, reflecting the vibrant spirit of democracy.
Despite the challenging weather conditions, voters turned out in large numbers, underscoring their commitment to the electoral process. The Election Commission expressed gratitude to voters and the entire election machinery for their dedication and efforts in ensuring a smooth polling process.
At the helm of the operation, CEC Shri Rajiv Kumar, along with ECs Shri Gyanesh Kumar and Shri Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, closely monitored the progress of polling from the ECI Headquarters in Nirvachan Sadan. State-of-the-art control rooms were established at both the national and regional levels to facilitate efficient coordination and oversight.
In a heartening display of democracy in action, polling stations witnessed a diverse array of voters, reflecting the rich tapestry of the nation. From urban centers to remote villages, citizens from all walks of life converged to exercise their franchise.
Notably, communities in Left Wing Extremist (LWE) affected areas, such as Chhattisgarh, embraced the electoral process, choosing the ballot over the bullet. In Bastar, 56 villages witnessed historic polling booths set up within their own communities for the first time, symbolizing a triumph of peace and democracy.
Innovative measures were also observed across various polling stations, including the use of local dialects to disseminate information and the provision of medical facilities at Model Polling stations, ensuring accessibility for all voters.
As the nation awaits the final tally, the spirit of democracy remains resolute, with voters across the country demonstrating their unwavering commitment to shaping the future of the nation through the power of the ballot.
