In his address, Giriraj Singh urged stakeholders to target premium niche markets by blending modernity with tradition. He emphasized the importance of incorporating innovative designs and focused marketing strategies to boost the handloom industry’s visibility. According to him, these efforts are crucial for making the handloom sector self-sustainable and globally competitive.
Making Handloom Self-Sustainable and Atmanirbhar
Giriraj Singh appealed to stakeholders to change conventional mindsets and make handloom weaving self-sustainable by leveraging innovative technological solutions. He highlighted the need to create a strong brand image for handloom products in global markets, making the sector ‘Atmanirbhar’ (self-reliant).
Women’s Empowerment and Key Roles in the Sector
The Minister also emphasized that the Ministry of Textiles stands as a perfect example of Prime Minister Modi’s vision for women’s empowerment. He pointed out that most of the key functionaries in the Ministry and a significant majority of artisans and weavers are women, underlining their vital role in the sector.
Launch of Handloom Weavers E-Pehchaan Portal
In a significant move to digitalize and modernize the handloom sector, Giriraj Singh launched the Handloom Weavers E-Pehchaan portal and the Online module for Handloom Awards. These initiatives aim to improve transparency, recognition, and accessibility for weavers, empowering them in the digital age.
