This occasion, known as the ‘Police Memorial Day Parade,’ is a poignant reminder of the dedication and commitment displayed by the police force in the state.
A Salute to the Heroes of 2022-23
During his address, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath highlighted the valor of three courageous policemen from the state police force who laid down their lives in the line of duty in the year 2022-23. Their unwavering commitment and bravery serve as a shining example to all, inspiring others to follow the path of duty with utmost dedication and a profound sense of responsibility.

The Chief Minister expressed his deep respect for all the martyred policemen, emphasizing that their supreme sacrifice continues to serve as a wellspring of inspiration for all those involved in law enforcement. He assured the families of the fallen officers that the government would always stand ready to take all necessary steps with utmost sensitivity for their welfare.
Remembering Police Memorial Day
‘Police Memorial Day’ is celebrated to pay tribute to those brave men and women in uniform who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. The roots of this solemn day date back to 1959 when ten valiant policemen gave their lives while confronting heavily armed Chinese security forces in Hot Spring, Ladakh.
Praising the Role of Police
Yogi Adityanath praised the policemen for their dedication and contribution, especially during challenging circumstances. He noted that they played a commendable role in maintaining law and order, establishing social harmony, and protecting the safety of women and girls in the state.
Over the past six years, the police force has played a significant role in ensuring the smooth conduct of various crucial events, including the Kumbh Mela, Lok Sabha elections, Panchayat elections, Assembly elections, and Municipal body elections.
Police as Corona Warriors
Yogi Adityanath also acknowledged the remarkable role played by the police force during the COVID-19 pandemic, referring to them as “Corona warriors” who were always ready to assist the people of the state.
The Chief Minister informed the audience that the state government had provided financial assistance of Rs 38 crore 96 lakh to the dependents of 140 martyred personnel who served in the state police, Central Paramilitary Forces, paramilitary forces of other states, and the Indian Army, originally from Uttar Pradesh.
Zero Tolerance for Crime
Emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy towards crime and criminals, Yogi Adityanath highlighted that from March 2017 to September 2023, the police had encountered and neutralized 190 hardened criminals, with 16 police personnel attaining martyrdom and 1,478 policemen sustaining injuries in these operations.
To enhance law and order, the state government took action against 69,332 accused under the Gangster Act and 887 accused under the National Security Act, demonstrating its commitment to tightening the noose on criminals in Uttar Pradesh.
