The ICAR-Indian Institute of Vegetable Research, Varanasi, is set to host a three-day Regional Agricultural Fair from February 3rd to 5th, 2024, at the Shahanshahpur campus. Uttar Pradesh Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Shri Surya Pratap Shahi, will grace the event as the chief guest.
The fair aims to focus on human health and farmer prosperity through advanced agricultural practices, covering diverse topics such as agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, advanced vegetable cultivation, polyhouse, high-tech nursery, organic farming, and processing.
Dr. Tushar Kanti Behera, Director of IIVR, highlighted the technical sessions that will delve into crucial areas like value addition, agricultural mechanization, drones, pest and disease management, and fostering interaction between agricultural experts and farmers from across the country. The collaboration with various entities, including the Association for Promotion of Innovation in Vegetables, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, State Government, and Government and private establishments, enhances the fair’s scope.
Key attractions include a vegetable exhibition, display, and sale of agricultural inputs/implements by various organizations. Dignitaries from state and central government, universities, ICAR institutes, agribusiness institutes, and various companies, along with over 5,000 farmers from six different states, are expected to participate.
Dr. Behera emphasized the need for sustained attention to climate change, storage, marketing, processing, and self-employment in agriculture for future food and nutrition security. The fair serves as a crucial platform for disseminating agricultural advancements and empowering farmers with knowledge.
