IMD Forecast: Heat Wave to Persist in East and South India, Heavy Rainfall Expected in Northeast

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast indicating the continuation of heat wave conditions in certain parts of India, alongside a warning of heavy rainfall in others.

According to IMD’s latest update, heat wave conditions are likely to persist over East India until May 5th and over the south Peninsular region until May 6th. The intense heat has been affecting various states in these regions, with temperatures soaring and discomfort levels rising.

Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses, such as staying hydrated, avoiding direct exposure to sunlight during peak hours, and staying indoors whenever possible. Authorities have also been urged to implement measures to mitigate the impact of the heat wave, including providing access to cool shelters and distributing water to vulnerable populations.

In addition to the heat wave, IMD has also issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds over Northeast India on May 5th and 6th. This weather system is expected to bring relief from the scorching temperatures but may pose risks of flooding, landslides, and other weather-related hazards.

Residents in the affected regions are advised to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and alerts issued by IMD and local authorities. Precautionary measures, such as avoiding travel during heavy rainfall, securing loose objects outdoors, and being prepared for power outages, should be taken to ensure safety during inclement weather.

IMD’s timely forecasts and warnings play a crucial role in helping communities and authorities prepare for and respond to extreme weather events. By staying informed and taking proactive measures, individuals can minimize the adverse effects of heat waves and heavy rainfall, thereby safeguarding lives and property.
