IMD Issues Heat Wave Alert and Monsoon Forecast

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert regarding ongoing heat wave conditions across various regions in India. Over the next five days, severe heat wave conditions are expected to persist in the plains of Northwest India. Similarly, heat wave conditions are likely to affect East and Central India over the next three days.

Amidst these extreme temperatures, IMD also forecasts the advancement of the Southwest Monsoon. The monsoon is very likely to reach the South Andaman Sea, some parts of the Southeast Bay of Bengal, and the Nicobar Islands around May 19, 2024. This marks a significant step in the seasonal weather transition.

Furthermore, IMD predicts the formation of a low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal around May 22. This system is expected to move northeastwards and intensify into a Depression over the central parts of the Bay of Bengal by May 24.

These weather developments underscore the critical need for preparedness and caution as India braces for severe heat and the onset of the monsoon season.
