IMD Predicts Further Advance of Southwest Monsoon and Heavy Rainfall Across India

Monsoon: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced favorable conditions for the further advance of the Southwest Monsoon, with its Northern Limit currently passing through specific coordinates across India. This monsoon advance is anticipated to influence the remaining areas of the central Arabian Sea, Karnataka, southern Maharashtra, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, southern Chhattisgarh, southern Odisha, and sections of the Bay of Bengal over the next 2 to 3 days.

Weather Systems and Forecast:

  1. Cyclonic Circulation Over Nagaland:
    • Widespread light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms expected in northeastern states and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim for the next 7 days.
    • Heavy rainfall forecasted in Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh from June 6-10, with very heavy rainfall on June 7-8.
  2. Cyclonic Circulations Over Rayalaseema and Coastal Karnataka:
    • Rainfall with thunderstorms likely over Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and Karnataka. Scattered rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Rayalaseema for the next 5 days.
    • Heavy rainfall predicted for Kerala & Mahe from June 6-10, Coastal Karnataka on June 8-9, North Interior Karnataka on June 6-7, and Tamil Nadu on June 6.
  3. Heavy Rainfall Alerts:
    • Heavy rainfall in Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra from June 6-10, and Marathwada on June 6-7. Very heavy rainfall expected in Konkan & Goa on June 8-9, and in South Madhya Maharashtra and Coastal Karnataka on June 9.
  4. Cyclonic Circulation Over West Uttar Pradesh:
    • Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms forecasted in Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Vidarbha, and Madhya Pradesh for the next 5 days.
    • Hailstorm and squally winds likely in south Madhya Pradesh on June 6.
  5. Western Disturbance Over North Pakistan:
    • Light rainfall with thunderstorms predicted for Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand for the next 2-3 days.
    • Duststorms likely in Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi on June 6 and Rajasthan from June 6-8.

Heat Wave and Weather Warnings:

  • Heat Wave Alerts:
    • Heatwave conditions are expected in parts of northeast Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Bihar from June 6-10. Additionally, northwest MP & Odisha will likely experience heatwave conditions from June 7-10.
    • Severe heatwave conditions expected in Uttar Pradesh from June 7-10.
  • Hot and Humid Conditions:
    • Isolated pockets in Odisha on June 6 and Gangetic WB from June 6-10 are expected to experience hot & humid weather conditions.
