IMD Reports Monsoon Progress and Severe Weather Alerts for June 2024

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has provided updates on the advance of the Southwest Monsoon and issued several weather warnings for June 11-15, 2024.

Monsoon Advance

  • Northern Limit: Currently at 20.5°N/60°E, 20.5°N/65°E, Dahanu, Nasik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Nizamabad, Sukma, Malkangiri, Vizianagaram, 19.5°N/88°E, 21.5°N/89.5°E, 23°N/89.5°E, and Islampur.
  • Forecast: The monsoon is expected to advance into more parts of the north Arabian Sea, South Gujarat, and Maharashtra in the next 24 hours.

Weather Systems and Forecast

  • Cyclonic Circulation: Over northeast Assam.
  • Trough: From northwest Bihar to Nagaland.
  • Strong Winds: From the Bay of Bengal to the northeastern states.

Rainfall Forecast

  • Northeastern States: Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms expected over the next seven days.
  • Heavy Rainfall: Likely in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from June 11-15.

Other Regions

  • Konkan & Goa, Karnataka, Telangana: Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms over the next 4-5 days.
  • Isolated Heavy Rainfall: Expected in parts of Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Rayalaseema, and Kerala.

Heatwave Alerts

  • Severe Heatwave: Likely in parts of Uttar Pradesh from June 11-15.
  • Heatwave Conditions: Expected in isolated pockets of Jammu, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Jharkhand, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.
