The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has provided updates on the advance of the Southwest Monsoon and issued several weather warnings for June 11-15, 2024.
Monsoon Advance
- Northern Limit: Currently at 20.5°N/60°E, 20.5°N/65°E, Dahanu, Nasik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Nizamabad, Sukma, Malkangiri, Vizianagaram, 19.5°N/88°E, 21.5°N/89.5°E, 23°N/89.5°E, and Islampur.
- Forecast: The monsoon is expected to advance into more parts of the north Arabian Sea, South Gujarat, and Maharashtra in the next 24 hours.
Weather Systems and Forecast
- Cyclonic Circulation: Over northeast Assam.
- Trough: From northwest Bihar to Nagaland.
- Strong Winds: From the Bay of Bengal to the northeastern states.
Rainfall Forecast
- Northeastern States: Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms expected over the next seven days.
- Heavy Rainfall: Likely in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from June 11-15.
Other Regions
- Konkan & Goa, Karnataka, Telangana: Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms over the next 4-5 days.
- Isolated Heavy Rainfall: Expected in parts of Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Rayalaseema, and Kerala.
Heatwave Alerts
- Severe Heatwave: Likely in parts of Uttar Pradesh from June 11-15.
- Heatwave Conditions: Expected in isolated pockets of Jammu, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Jharkhand, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.
