IMD Reports Severe Visibility Challenges Across Northern and Eastern India

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported significantly reduced visibility levels in various states across Northern and Eastern India. The latest visibility data, recorded at 0530 hours IST on January 13, 2024, highlights challenging conditions in several cities.

In Punjab, Amritsar recorded visibility as low as 25 meters, while Patiala fared slightly better at 500 meters. Haryana-Delhi regions experienced varied visibility levels, with Hissar at 50 meters, Palam (Delhi) and Safdarjung (Delhi) at 200 meters each.

“Uttar Pradesh witnessed varying visibility in different cities, including Lucknow and Varanasi (Babatpur) at 25 meters each, Gorakhpur and Bahraich at 200 meters each, and Bareilly, Varanasi, and Sultanpur at 500 meters each”.

Bihar reported low visibility in Purnea and Gaya at 50 meters each, while Patna and Bhagalpur recorded 500 meters each. In Madhya Pradesh, Gwalior reported visibility at 200 meters.

Gangetic West Bengal experienced challenges, with Diamond Harbour at 50 meters and Malda at 500 meters. Assam reported low visibility in Tezpur, North Lakhimpur, and Dibrugarh at 50 meters each, while Guwahati recorded 500 meters.

“Andhra Pradesh saw Vijayawada with visibility at 200 meters, and in Rajasthan, Ganganagar and Kota both reported visibility at 500 meters”.

“The recorded visibility levels indicate widespread poor visibility in these regions, posing potential challenges for transportation and daily activities. Residents and travelers are advised to exercise caution and stay updated on weather advisories issued by the IMD to navigate these conditions safely”.
