IMD Warns of Heavy Rainfall for Kerala & Mahe from May 20th to 23rd, 2024

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a stern warning for Kerala & Mahe, signaling the likelihood of heavy rainfall accompanied by extremely heavy falls over the coming days. According to the latest forecast, the regions are expected to experience isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall from May 20th to 22nd, 2024, followed by another spell of heavy to very heavy rainfall on May 23rd.

The IMD’s advisory underscores the potential for significant precipitation, with rainfall exceeding 204.5 mm categorized as extremely heavy falls. Such intense downpours can lead to localized flooding, landslides, and disruption of normal life. Residents are urged to exercise caution and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and well-being during this period.

Kerala & Mahe, known for their lush green landscapes and scenic beauty, are no strangers to heavy rainfall, particularly during the monsoon season. However, the IMD’s forecast serves as a timely reminder of the need for vigilance and preparedness in the face of extreme weather events.

Authorities and disaster management agencies are on high alert, closely monitoring the situation and coordinating response measures to mitigate the potential impact of the anticipated rainfall. Efforts are underway to disseminate early warnings, facilitate evacuation procedures in vulnerable areas, and provide assistance to those in need.

In light of the IMD’s forecast, residents are advised to stay updated with the latest weather advisories and follow instructions issued by local authorities. Precautionary measures such as avoiding unnecessary travel, securing loose objects, and ensuring adequate drainage around homes can help minimize risks associated with heavy rainfall and its aftermath.
