The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for East and South Peninsular India, indicating the persistence of heat wave to severe heat wave conditions until May 3rd. However, the situation is expected to gradually improve thereafter, offering some relief to residents grappling with scorching temperatures.
The affected regions encompass states such as Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and parts of Maharashtra and Odisha. With temperatures soaring well above normal levels, residents are advised to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses and discomfort.
The prolonged heat wave poses various risks to public health, agriculture, and infrastructure. Vulnerable populations, including the elderly, children, and those engaged in outdoor activities, are particularly susceptible to heat stress and dehydration during such extreme weather conditions.
Authorities are urged to implement measures to mitigate the impact of the heat wave, including providing access to cool shelters, distributing drinking water, and disseminating awareness about heat safety practices. Additionally, farmers are advised to adopt suitable strategies to protect crops and livestock from heat stress.
As temperatures soar, individuals need to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, and seek shade whenever possible. Wearing loose, lightweight clothing and using sunscreen can also help reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses.
