The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a stern warning of heatwave to severe heatwave conditions in several states across India on 25th May 2024. According to IMD’s forecast, many parts of Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi are expected to experience severe heatwave conditions. Additionally, isolated pockets of West Madhya Pradesh will also be affected.
Furthermore, heatwave conditions are anticipated in isolated pockets of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, West Uttar Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat, Saurashtra, and Kutch on the same day.
As temperatures soar, it is crucial for residents in the affected regions to take necessary precautions to combat the extreme heat. Staying hydrated, avoiding outdoor activities during peak hours, and seeking refuge in shaded or air-conditioned areas are recommended measures to prevent heat-related illnesses.
Authorities are urged to implement appropriate measures to ensure the well-being of vulnerable populations, including the elderly, children, and individuals engaged in outdoor labor. Provision of drinking water and access to cooling centers can help alleviate the impact of the heatwave on communities.
The IMD’s warning serves as a timely reminder for residents and authorities to remain vigilant and prepared for the challenging weather conditions ahead. By taking proactive measures and staying informed, individuals can minimize the adverse effects of the impending heatwave and safeguard their health and well-being.
