The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heatwave to severe heatwave conditions in several regions across India on 26th May 2024. According to the IMD, many parts of Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi are expected to experience severe heatwave conditions. Additionally, a few parts of West Uttar Pradesh and isolated pockets of West Madhya Pradesh will also be affected.
The forecast further indicates that heatwave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of Jammu & Kashmir, (HP) Himachal Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh(UP), East Madhya Pradesh (MP), Vidarbha, Gujarat, Saurashtra, and Kutch on the same day.
Residents in these areas are advised to take necessary precautions to combat the extreme heat. This includes staying hydrated, avoiding outdoor activities during peak hours, and seeking shelter in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
Authorities are urged to implement measures to ensure the well-being of vulnerable populations, including the elderly, children, and those engaged in outdoor work. Provision of adequate drinking water and access to cooling centers can help alleviate the impact of the heatwave on communities.
The IMD’s warning highlights the need for vigilance and preparedness in the face of challenging weather conditions. By taking proactive steps, individuals and authorities can mitigate the adverse effects of the impending heatwave and safeguard public health and safety.
