IMD Warns of Severe Heatwave Conditions Across Northern India

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe heatwave warning for June 18, 2024, affecting many parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, and Punjab. Isolated heatwave conditions are also expected in Jammu Division, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Jharkhand. Residents are urged to take precautions as temperatures are set to soar.

1. Severe Heatwave Alert for UP and Bihar

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heat to severe heatwave conditions in many parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar on June 18, 2024. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions as temperatures are expected to soar, posing significant health risks.

2. Heatwave Conditions in Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh-Delhi, and Punjab

According to IMD, severe heat conditions are also likely in parts of Himachal Pradesh, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, and Punjab. The authorities in these regions are preparing for the intense heat, urging people to stay hydrated and avoid outdoor activities during peak hours.

3. Isolated Heat Pockets in Several States

In addition to the severe heatwave warnings, isolated pockets of heat conditions are very likely in Jammu Division, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Jharkhand. These areas will experience elevated temperatures, requiring local administrations to issue advisories and support measures for affected populations.

4. Precautionary Measures and Public Awareness

The IMD emphasizes the importance of public awareness and preparedness in facing these extreme weather conditions. The department recommends staying indoors during the hottest parts of the day, drinking plenty of fluids, and wearing light, breathable clothing.
