IMD Weather Update: Rainfall, Fog, and Smog Alerts for Southern and Northern India (12th – 17th November 2024)

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 7-day forecast and warnings covering significant weather developments across various regions, with specific attention to rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and foggy conditions from 12th to 17th November 2024.

Southern India Rainfall Forecast

  • Light to Moderate Rainfall: Scattered showers with isolated thunderstorms and lightning are expected over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema from 12th to 16th November.
  • Very Heavy Rainfall Alert: On 12th November, isolated areas in Rayalaseema, south Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and northern Tamil Nadu could experience intense rain.
  • Heavy Rainfall Expected:
    • Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are likely to see heavy rainfall from 13th to the 16th of November.
    • Kerala and Mahe are expected to experience heavy rains from 13th to 17th of November.
    • Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema are under heavy rain alert for the 13th and 14th.
    • South Interior Karnataka may also receive heavy rainfall from 13th to 15th November.

Fog Advisory for Northern India

  • Punjab: Dense to very dense fog is forecasted during late night & early morning hours until 14th Nov. Dense fog will persist for an additional two days.
  • Himachal Pradesh: Foggy conditions are likely in isolated pockets until 17th Nov.
  • Haryana & Uttar Pradesh: Dense fog is expected in the late-night and early-morning hours until 15th Nov.

  • 15th November: Predominantly clear skies will continue, with northwest winds below 8 kmph in the morning, increasing to 10-15 kmph in the afternoon and tapering off in the evening. Fog or smog may affect visibility in the morning and evening.
