Inaugural Workshop: Joint Secretary Sagar Mehra Launches MSJA on October 23, 2023

The workshop will commence with the inauguration by the Joint Secretary (Inland Fisheries and Administration), Department of Fisheries, Shri Sagar Mehra. His opening remarks will set the tone for the program, emphasizing the importance of the MSJA initiative.

During the workshop, Shri S. Mahesh, Joint Director (Central Zone), Dept. of Fisheries, Govt. of Kerala, will make a presentation on the implementation of fisheries development schemes through the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) in Kerala. This presentation will provide insights into successful schemes and their impact on the region.

Shri M. Shaji, Joint Director (Aquaculture) Retd., MPEDA, and Consultant (NFDB), will deliver an address on aquaculture technologies under the PMMSY scheme in Kerala. This discussion will highlight methods for the successful implementation of aquaculture initiatives.

Initiatives in Start-ups and Entrepreneurship

Dr. Zynudheen A.A, Head & Principal Scientist, QAM Division, CIFT, Kochi, will present on the initiatives of the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT) in start-ups and entrepreneurship related to PMMSY. This segment will explore opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship in the fisheries sector.

Shri Kamalraj, Processing Technologist at NIFPHATT, will present NIFPHATT’s intervention in value addition and capacity building in reference to PMMSY. This discussion will shed light on enhancing the value chain in the fisheries sector.

Stakeholder Interaction

Smt. Maja Jose, Deputy Director (Training), Dept. of Fisheries, Kerala, will lead the interaction with stakeholders. During this session, stakeholders will share their success stories and experiences in the fisheries sector.

The MSJA initiative is a critical step in reaching out to the extensive network of fishers, fish farmers, and other stakeholders involved in the fisheries and aquaculture sector. The aim is to enhance awareness, knowledge, and participation in government schemes, ultimately contributing to the welfare of the community.

With a goal to reach out to over 2.8 crore fish farmers and stakeholders, the MSJA initiative seeks to bridge information gaps, promote best practices, and encourage advancements in fisheries and aquaculture. It is poised to drive efficiency, profitability, and sustainability in the fisheries sector.
