The Ministry of Ayush, in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs, the Indian Mission to ASEAN, and the ASEAN Secretariat, is gearing up to host the Conference on Traditional Medicines for ASEAN Countries on 20th July 2023. This conference aims to enhance cooperation between India and ASEAN countries in the field of Traditional Medicines by facilitating the exchange of best practices and establishing a roadmap for future collaboration.

Union Minister for Ayush, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, highlighted the strong foundation of shared geographical, historical, and civilizational links between India and ASEAN countries. He emphasized that the conference reflects the deeper cooperation between India and ASEAN, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Act East Policy’ and strategic partnership.
Growth and Achievements of the Ministry of Ayush
Minister Sonowal noted the significant growth of the Ayush sector since 2014 when it was established as an independent ministry. The Ministry of Ayush has engaged with renowned international organizations and national institutions to conduct high-quality research on Ayush systems in various disease conditions, including diabetes, cancer, mental health, and infectious diseases like Covid-19. The conference will provide a platform to share research outcomes and experiences with ASEAN countries.

The Conference on Traditional Medicines will enable the Ministry of Ayush to present the research outcomes of various projects undertaken in collaboration with international and national organizations. The one-day conference, held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, will witness the participation of 75 delegates from eight ASEAN countries, along with two international delegates attending virtually. The conference will serve as a platform for brainstorming and sharing ideas on Traditional Medicines, fostering collaboration and laying the foundation for future partnerships.
