A contingent of 45 personnel from the Indian Armed Forces has arrived in Hanoi, Vietnam, to partake in the fourth edition of the Joint Military Exercise VINBAX-2023. Scheduled from December 11th to 21st, 2023, the exercise aims to enhance collaborative partnerships, promote interoperability, and share best practices between the participating contingents.
The Indian contingent, comprised of 39 personnel from the Bengal Engineer Group’s Engineer Regiment and six personnel from the Army Medical Corps, will engage with a counterpart force from the Vietnam People’s Army, also consisting of 45 personnel. The exercise, instituted in 2018, is conducted alternately in India and Vietnam, with the previous edition held at Chandimandir Military Station in August 2022.
Under the framework of Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter on Peacekeeping Operations, the exercise will be executed as a Command Post Exercise cum Field Training Exercise. The focus will be on the deployment and utilization of an Engineer Company and a Medical Team. The joint endeavor will facilitate the exchange of ideas and collaborative rehearsal of tactics, techniques, and procedures, particularly in the construction of roads, culverts, helipads, ammunition shelters, and observation posts in operational areas.
Furthermore, the exercise will include rehearsals for combat engineering and combat medical tasks, fostering a deeper understanding of modern methods. The culmination will feature a Validation Exercise, showcasing the standards achieved by both contingents. Technical military operations will be conducted in line with scenarios simulating the global deployment of United Nations contingents.
The overarching goal of the joint exercise is to strengthen defense cooperation, promote understanding, and enhance interoperability between the Indian and Vietnamese contingents.
