The Indian Army contingent has commenced its journey to Seychelles to take part in the tenth edition of the Joint Military Exercise “LAMITIYE-2024” alongside the Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF). Scheduled to be held from 18th to 27th March 2024, the exercise signifies the longstanding friendship between India and Seychelles, as ‘LAMITIYE’ translates to ‘Friendship’ in the Creole language.
With 45 personnel from each side, including the GORKHA RIFLES of the Indian Army and the SDF, the exercise aims to enhance interoperability in Sub-conventional Operations within a Semi-Urban environment under Chapter 7th of the United Nations Charter on Peace Keeping Operations. By conducting tactical drills and exchanging skills and experiences, the exercise seeks to bolster cooperation and interoperability during Peace Keeping Operations.
Throughout the ten-day exercise, participants will engage in a series of well-developed tactical drills aimed at neutralizing potential threats in a Semi-Urban setting, while also showcasing new-generation equipment and technology. Field Training Exercises, combat discussions, lectures, demonstrations, and a Validation Exercise will be part of the comprehensive training program.
The joint exercise is poised to foster mutual understanding, jointness, and collaborative partnership between the troops of both armies. Furthermore, it will serve as a platform for sharing best practices and promoting bilateral military relations between India and Seychelles.
