Indian Army and USI Organize Second Edition of Lt Gen PS Bhagat Memorial Lecture

The second edition of the “Lieutenant General PS Bhagat Memorial Lecture” marked a significant event in the annals of Indian military discourse, organized jointly by the Indian Army and the United Services Institution of India (USI) at the prestigious Manekshaw Centre.

Lieutenant General KT Parnaik (Retired), the Hon’ble Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, delivered a keynote address, shedding light on the theme “Armed Forces Contribution to Realize the Vision of a Rising India.” His speech underscored the pivotal role played by the Indian Armed Forces in nation-building, drawing from the rich legacy of Lieutenant General Bhagat’s military career.

Governor Parnaik recognized the commendable contributions of the Indian Armed Forces in both Area Contingencies and Defence Diplomacy endeavors. He also discussed the evolving nature of warfare, emphasizing the importance of modernization, self-reliance, and technology infusion in the armed forces.

General Manoj Pande, the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), delivered a special address, reflecting on Lieutenant General Bhagat’s extraordinary courage and strategic foresight. He highlighted Bhagat’s visionary writings on military transformation, which remain relevant even today.

The event witnessed the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including former Chiefs of Army Staff General JJ Singh (Retired), General Deepak Kapoor (Retired), and General MM Naravane (Retired), alongside senior serving officers, veterans, and civilian dignitaries.

A highlight of the event was the release of the book titled “The Victoria Cross Icon: Vision and Legacy,” authored by Major General Shashikant G Pitre (Retired). The book offers a comprehensive account of Lieutenant General Bhagat’s military contributions, highlighting his strategic vision, leadership qualities, and enduring legacy in the Indian Army’s history.
