In a significant victory against illicit drug trafficking, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), in collaboration with the Anti-terrorism Squad (ATS) and Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), executed a meticulously planned operation resulting in the seizure of 86 kg of narcotics worth Rs 600 crore from a Pakistani vessel at sea.
The operation, conducted on April 28, 2024, showcased the seamless coordination and joint efforts of the ICG, ATS, and NCB in combating transnational crime and safeguarding national security interests.
The ICG ship Rajratan, equipped with ATS and NCB officials, played a pivotal role in positively identifying the suspect boat despite its attempts to evade detection. The swift and decisive response of the Rajratan, complemented by a fleet of ships and aircraft engaged in concurrent missions, left no room for escape for the drug-laden vessel.
With precision and expertise, the specialist team from the Rajratan boarded the suspect boat and conducted thorough checks, ultimately confirming the presence of a substantial quantity of narcotics onboard. Subsequently, the 14 crew members aboard the vessel were apprehended, and the narcotics seized.
The vessel intercepted, along with its crew, is presently being escorted to Porbandar for additional investigation & legal procedures. This successful operation underscores the unwavering commitment of the ICG, ATS, and NCB in combating the menace of drug trafficking and ensuring the safety and security of India’s maritime borders.
Furthermore, the collaboration between the ICG and ATS, which has resulted in eleven successful law enforcement operations in the last three years alone, reaffirms the synergy and effectiveness of joint efforts in achieving national objectives and preserving the integrity of India’s coastal security.
