India’s Manufacturing Surge in Mobile Phones and Telecom Products

Mobile Phone: Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, emphasized India’s impressive strides in mobile phone production, noting the jump from 5.8 crore phones in 2014-15 to 33 crore in 2023-24.

Mobile Phones: Telecom Equipment Manufacturing Breaks New Ground

Vaishnaw shared that telecom equipment production, once a dream, reached Rs. 45,000 crore in 2023-24, with exports exceeding Rs. 10,500 crore, showcasing the success of the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.

Exports Reflect Strong Growth

The minister highlighted the export growth, with nearly 5 crore mobile exported in 2023-24, marking India’s rise as a global manufacturing hub.

Criticism and Progress

Vaishnaw pointed out that despite this progress, detractors, including the Congress, fail to appreciate India’s manufacturing advancements in phones and telecom equipment.
