Indo-US Special Forces Exercise “VAJRA PRAHAR 2023” Kicks Off in Meghalaya

The 14th edition of the Indo-US Joint Special Forces exercise, known as “VAJRA PRAHAR 2023,” has officially begun at the Joint Training Node in Umroi, Meghalaya. The exercise, which spans from November 21st to December 11th, marks another chapter in the collaborative efforts between the Indian Army and the US Army Special Forces.

Evolution of VAJRA PRAHAR:

The roots of this joint exercise date back to 2010 when the inaugural edition took place in India. Since then, VAJRA PRAHAR has grown in scope and significance. The 13th edition, held at the Special Forces Training School in Bakloh, Himachal Pradesh, set the stage for the current edition in Umroi Cantonment.

Objectives and Focus Areas:

The primary objective of VAJRA PRAHAR is to facilitate the exchange of best practices and experiences between the Special Forces of India and the United States. The exercise focuses on joint mission planning, operational tactics, and the sharing of expertise in various specialized areas.

Operational Scenarios and Training Highlights:

Over the next three weeks, both the Indian and US contingents will engage in joint planning and rehearsal of a range of special operations. These include Counter-Terrorist Operations, Combat Free Fall Insertion of troops from stand-off distances, Waterborne Insertion of troops, Precision Engagement of targets at long ranges, Combat Air Controlling of fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft, and Airborne Insertion and Sustenance of troops. The scenarios will simulate both conventional and unconventional situations in challenging mountainous terrain.

Enhancing Inter-Operability and Defence Cooperation:

VAJRA PRAHAR serves as a vital platform for enhancing interoperability between the Special Forces of India and the United States. The exercise not only strengthens the strategic partnership but also fosters a deeper understanding of each other’s capabilities and operational methodologies. It plays a crucial role in building a foundation for sustained defense cooperation between the two nations.
