Jitendra Singh: India’s Bio-economy Set To Reach $300 Billion By 2030.

India’s bio-economy is on track to reach $300 billion by 2030, and with a growing focus on innovation and scientific advancement, the country is poised to join the global wave of the new industrial revolution, according to Union Minister Jitendra Singh.

Speaking at the “National Consultation Meeting on Bio-manufacturing to build a Draft Policy Framework on Bio-manufacturing,” Singh emphasized that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government is committed to enabling Circular-Bio-economy by advancing a high-performance Bio-manufacturing’ in the country.

Singh noted that the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) aims to bring together scientific and technological advancements to achieve the major goal of the department’s vision of BioE3 (i.e., Biotechnology for Economy, Environment, and Employment) for a green, clean, and prosperous India.

The minister emphasized that India envisions “Green Growth” in the upcoming ‘Amrit Kaal,’ and that a systematic framework plan is needed to implement robust, innovative, and bio-based eco-friendly solutions to further boost the country’s ongoing economic growth. He also highlighted the “Mission LiFE” program, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 20, 2022, which urges the adoption of green and environmentally friendly solutions in all aspects of life to achieve climate and energy goals.

The Bio-manufacturing program will support “Make in India” by promoting domestic manufacturing (Industry 4.0) and building green infrastructure for bio-manufacturing across the country. Additionally, it will lead to the development of a skilled workforce in the field of Bio-manufacturing, job creation, and entrepreneurship, particularly in 2- and 3-tier cities, and streamline policies and regulations for Biogenic products to expand market opportunities.
