Kapil Sibal was Elected President of the Supreme Court Bar Association

In a resounding triumph, Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal clinched the coveted position of President in the recent elections held for the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA). Sibal’s victory, with a staggering 1,066 votes, underscores his unwavering prominence and trust among his peers. His nearest competitor, senior advocate Pradeep Rai, garnered 689 votes, falling short in the face of Sibal’s commanding lead.

This triumph marks the fourth time that Kapil Sibal will serve as the president of the esteemed SCBA, a testament to his enduring commitment and leadership within the legal fraternity. Sibal’s candidacy was announced on May 8, signaling his determination to continue serving the legal community with diligence and dedication.

The election saw formidable contenders vying for the prestigious post, including Priya Hingorani, Tripurari Ray, and Neeraj Srivastava. However, it was Sibal’s unmatched experience, coupled with his sterling reputation, that propelled him to victory.

A distinguished graduate of Harvard Law School, Kapil Sibal’s illustrious career has been marked by significant contributions to the legal landscape of India. His tenure as the additional solicitor general of India from 1989 to 1990 exemplifies his deep-rooted commitment to upholding justice and the rule of law. Designated as a senior advocate in 1983, Sibal’s expertise and legal acumen have earned him widespread admiration and respect.

Notably, this isn’t the first time Sibal has assumed the mantle of SCBA President. Having previously served in this capacity three times, with his last term dating back twenty-three years ago in 2001, Sibal’s reelection reflects the enduring trust reposed in his leadership abilities. He previously held the presidency during the terms of 1995-96 and 1997-98, further solidifying his stature as a stalwart figure in the legal arena.

Rohit Pandey, the current Honorary Secretary of the SCBA, confirmed Sibal’s victory, emphasizing the veteran lawyer’s unwavering commitment to advancing the interests of the legal fraternity. With Sibal’s ascension to the presidency, the SCBA is poised to navigate the complex legal landscape with sagacity and fortitude.

Senior advocate Adish Aggarwala, the incumbent president of the SCBA, expressed confidence in Sibal’s ability to lead the association to greater heights. The top court’s directive to reserve some executive committee posts for women members underscores the commitment to inclusivity and diversity within the SCBA.

As Kapil Sibal prepares to assume office once again, his reelection heralds a new chapter in the annals of the Supreme Court Bar Association. With his wealth of experience and unwavering dedication, Sibal is poised to steer the SCBA towards a future defined by excellence, integrity, and justice for all.
