Eminent Kannada actor Leelavathi breathed her last at a private hospital in Nelamangala, situated on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Suffering from age-related ailments, she had been admitted to the hospital, where she eventually succumbed to her health issues, marking the end of an era.

Leelavathi, who graced the screen in over 600 movies across Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu languages, had a significant impact on the film industry. Approximately 400 of her films were in Kannada, reflecting her enduring popularity in the regional cinema.

The veteran actress spent her last years in Nelamangala, residing with her actor son Vinod Raj. Her demise is a profound loss to the Kannada film fraternity, and tributes are expected from various quarters of the entertainment industry.

Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, expressed his grief on Twitter, recalling his recent visit to Leelavathi’s home. He expressed false hopes for her recovery, noting her captivating performances over decades. The Chief Minister, along with Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, will pay their final respects on December 9 at 11 am.
