Lok Sabha Elections 2024: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made significant strides in its preparations for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 by releasing a fresh list of candidates for constituencies in Odisha, Punjab, and West Bengal. With the announcement of 11 candidates across these states, the saffron party is gearing up for a competitive electoral battle.
In Odisha, the BJP has fielded Dr. Rabindra Narayan Behera from Jajpur (SC), Sukanta Kumar Panigrahi from Kandhamal, and Bhartruhari Mahtab from Cuttack. Notably, Mahtab’s candidature marks a strategic move, as he recently switched allegiance from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) to join the BJP.
Punjab sees a significant lineup of BJP candidates, including Dinesh Singh Babbu from Gurdaspur, Taranjit Singh Sandhu from Amritsar, Sushil Kumar Rinku from Jalandhar (SC), Ravneet Singh Bittu from Ludhiana, and Hans Raj Hans from Faridkot (SC). The party has also nominated Preneet Kaur, the wife of former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, from Patiala.
In West Bengal, the BJP has named Dr. Pranat Tudu from Jhargram (ST) and Debashish Dhar, IPS from Birbhum. This move reflects the party’s strategic efforts to expand its presence in the state.
The candidate list also features notable replacements and strategic nominations. Actor Sunny Deol has been replaced by Dinesh Singh ‘Babbu’ in Gurdaspur, while Hans Raj Hans has been shifted to contest from Punjab’s Faridkot.
Furthermore, the BJP has demonstrated confidence in leaders with diverse political backgrounds, including those formerly associated with the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and BJD. Rebel Congress leaders Preneet Kaur and Ravneet Singh Bittu have been fielded in Punjab, along with former AAP leader Sushil Kumar Rinku in Jalandhar.
Former diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu, who served as India’s Ambassador to the US, will represent the BJP from Amritsar, adding a touch of experience and diplomacy to the party’s lineup.
With the Lok Sabha Elections drawing closer, the BJP’s latest candidate list underscores its commitment to fielding strong contenders and strategically positioning itself to secure victory in key constituencies across Odisha, Punjab, and West Bengal.
