Supriya Sule, a three-time MP from Baramati, has raised concerns over the recent developments in the political landscape of Maharashtra, particularly in the Baramati constituency. She has condemned the BJP’s alleged ploy to field her sister-in-law Sunetra Pawar against her, portraying it as a calculated move to weaken her father and NCP patriarch Sharad Pawar politically.
Expressing her dismay, Supriya Sule emphasized the pain and unwarranted nature of labeling the upcoming election as a ‘Pawar versus Pawar’ contest. She denounced the BJP’s strategy as detrimental not only to the Pawar family but also to the state of Maharashtra.
“The attempt to pit Sunetra against me is an attack on the Pawar family & the people of Maharashtra. The BJP’s motive is to undermine Pawar Saheb’s influence in the region,” remarked Sule, citing remarks allegedly made by a senior BJP leader during a visit to Baramati.
Baramati, a stronghold of the Pawar family, is gearing up for a high-profile electoral battle, with the NCP faction led by Ajit Pawar nominating Sunetra Pawar to contest against Supriya Sule. The constituency, previously represented by both Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar, is scheduled for polls on May 7.
Despite her disappointment with the BJP’s tactics, Supriya Sule affirmed her respect for Sunetra Pawar, her elder brother’s wife, whom she regards as a mother figure. She expressed regret that the BJP failed to find a candidate outside the Pawar family to contest against her, highlighting the party’s perceived desperation.
“I am disappointed that my opponent sees it this way. My fight is against the BJP. Despite their vast resources, they could only nominate a Pawar to challenge me. They couldn’t find a candidate from their own ranks,” remarked Sule, underscoring her commitment to defending her constituency against external political maneuvers.
