Indian Idol:
Let’s start the list of Indian reality shows with ”Indian Idol”, a music show from India, which has a similar concept to American Idol. This singing reality show, in a format similar to American Idol, has completed 12 full seasons.
It became the first show of its kind on Indian television. In which singers from all over the country have to prove their talent in front of the judges. In this show, contestants from different cities across India showcase their singing talent through songs. Javed Akhtar, Shreya Ghoshal, and Farah Khan grace the judges’ seats on the show, which usually airs on Sony Entertainment Television.
Bigg Boss:
“Bigg Boss” is a game show that is based on the Dutch show “Big Brother”. Contestants, also known as ‘housemates’, are isolated from the outside world and live together in a house on this show. Cameras that are always on keep an eye on their every move. The celebrities are locked in a house together for the duration of the show. They are evicted each week by voting after being given certain tasks to complete. To avoid elimination, they perform various tasks and a winner is eventually declared based on the public’s votes. ”Bigg Boss” is now available in seven languages internationally through Voot and Disney+ Hotstar.
Jhalak Dikhla Jaa:
The show is the Indian version of BBC’s Dancing with the Stars and Strictly Come Dancing. Popular celebrities dance in a pair with professional artists and choreographers and compete to win the title. The love of dance runs high in India, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa is another treat for dance and Bollywood lovers.
In ”Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa”, the contestants are some of the famous faces from the Bollywood or Hindi television industry. They perform pre-recorded songs and are judged by both the judging panel and the audience. It first aired in 2006, the first four seasons were aired on Sony TV, and from the fifth season, it is airing on Colors TV.
Khatron Ke Khiladi:
An Indian reality show with a similar concept to the American show, Fear Factor. The show created a brand of its own in terms of the level of thrill and danger. The contestants are asked to perform bizarre risky tasks like handling wild animals in order to survive in the competition. The show is famous among the Indian audience. ”Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi” first aired on Sony TV and was then sold to Colors TV. Khatron Ke Khiladi has been hosted by celebrities like Akshay Kumar, Priyanka Chopra, Rohit Shetty, and Arjun Kapoor.
Kaun Banega Crorepati:
A money-winning quiz show hosted by Mr. Amitabh Bachchan. The concept of the show is based on a UK show ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’. Each episode consists of 10 contestants who play the ‘Fastest Finger First Round’ and the one who wins moves to the hot seat to play the quiz show. Contestants have to answer a series of questions – for each correct answer, they receive a cash prize, with the highest amount being Rs 7 crore. Contestants are also helped by three lifelines. ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati‘ is a famous TV show in India and around the world. ”Kaun Banega Crorepati” airs on Sony Entertainment Television.
India’s Got Talent:
Based on the concept of the global British ‘Got Talent‘ franchise, India’s Got Talent is a talent show where contestants take part in an audition in front of three judges. The show allows people with all kinds of talents from across the country to prove how talented they are. From players to sand artists, many people who have unique skills take part in an audition in front of three judges. and decide whether the contestant should proceed in the competition or not. Based on the audience votes, the contestants advance to the semi-finals and finals. The show aired on Colors TV from seasons 1 to 8 and on Sony TV from season nine.
The Kapil Sharma Show:
Broadcast by Sony Entertainment Television, The Kapil Sharma Show, also known as TKSS, is an Indian Hindi-language stand-up comedy and talk show. The show, hosted by Kapil Sharma, features Archana Puran Singh as a judge.
