Lt General Sanjiv Rai, the 33rd General Officer Commanding, concluded his illustrious career by superannuating after 37 and a half years of dedicated service in the Indian Army. Commissioned in June 1986 into the Sikh Light Infantry, Gen Rai held various commanding roles, including leading an infantry battalion on the western borders, an infantry brigade, and an infantry division on the northern borders. His distinguished career culminated in his command of the prestigious Chetak Corps along the western borders.
The retirement ceremony took place at Bathinda Military Station on Sunday, marking the end of Lt Gen Sanjiv Rai’s tenure as the Chetak Corps Commander. Before his role in the Chetak Corps, he served as the military secretary to the President.
Throughout his career, Gen Rai was honored with several prestigious awards, including the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Sena Medal, and Vishisht Seva Medal, recognizing his exceptional contributions to the Indian Army.
