Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL), a CPSE under the Ministry of Coal, is constantly striving to attain new heights in coal production and off-take through environ-friendly and sustainable mining practices.

The latest achievement of MCL in this direction is the development of Chandra Shekar Azad eco-park and Coal Museum at mine No.4 of Orient Area in Ib Valley Coalfields, Jharsuguda, Odisha. The Eco-park is situated at Gandghora village on the side of the Jharsuguda-Raigarh National Highway 49.

MCL repurposed coal mine No.4 which closed production in 2017 to construct the enchanting eco-park with a lush green landscape, coal café, and a children’s park in a record time.

The Union Minister of Coal, Mines & Parliamentary Affairs Sh Pralhad Joshi laid the foundation stone for the park in 2021. The visitors also have the opportunity to have firsthand experience of an underground mine at the park.

Inside the park, the Coal Museum is the perfect glimpse into the history and legacy of coal mining in India. Different working models of machines and vehicles used in Under Ground and Open Cast mines are on display. Surface miners, dumpers, cranes, tippers, dozers, belt conveyors, coal-cutting machines, drill machines, and backhoes are some of the coal mining machines on display.
