On Martyrs’ Day, the National Archives of India (NAI), in collaboration with the National Gandhi Museum, National Film Archives of India (NFDC), and Prasar Bharati Archives, hosted a special exhibition titled “Journey of the Mahatma: Through His Own Documents.”
Shri Arun Singhal, Director General of NAI, inaugurated the exhibition in the absence of Ms. Tara Gandhi Bhattacharjee due to a sudden health issue.
Welcome and Presidential Address
Dr. A. Annamalai, Director of the National Gandhi Museum, welcomed the attendees, while Shri Arun Singhal delivered the presidential address. Distinguished guests, Dr. Sudha Gopalakrishnan and Dr. Michael A. Pal praised the collaborative efforts in organizing this unique event, celebrating Gandhi’s profound legacy.
Flipbook Launch and Exhibition Details
A flipbook titled “Special Exhibition: Journey of the Mahatma – Through His Own Documents, Audio and Video” was also released during the event. The exhibition showcases rare photographs, documents, and recordings that provide an in-depth look at Gandhi’s life, his educational journey, his time in South Africa, his role in Indian freedom movements, and his advocacy for social justice and communal harmony, especially during Partition.
Open to the Public
The exhibition will remain open to the public until February 28, 2025, offering valuable insights into Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of nonviolence, justice, and peace. It promises to attract students, historians, and Gandhi enthusiasts alike.
