Helicopter Crash: Tragedy struck during a Royal Malaysian Navy parade rehearsal in Lumut when two helicopters collided mid-air, claiming the lives of 10 individuals. The incident, captured on video, showcases the devastating moment of collision and the ensuing crash, sending shockwaves through the nation.
According to reports, the collision occurred as both helicopters were in flight, with the front part of one colliding with the rear rotor of the other. The catastrophic impact led to a tailspin, ultimately resulting in the helicopter’s crash.
Amidst the chaos, voices can be heard uttering prayers as the helicopters spiral downwards. The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN), also known as TDLM, confirmed that the accident involved a Maritime Operations Helicopter (HOM-AW139) from the RMN FENNEC fleet, crashing at the Lumut base at 9:32 am.
The RMN statement revealed that all 10 personnel on board, including 7 crew members from the RMN HOM team and 3 from the FENNEC team, were rescued and taken to the RMN Lumut Base Hospital for medical treatment. Sadly, despite efforts, all victims succumbed to their injuries.
Senior operations commander from the fire and rescue department, Suhaimy Mohamad Suhail, confirmed the tragic outcome, stating that the collision occurred during flight training.
In response to the incident, the RMN announced the establishment of an “Investigation Board” to ascertain the cause. They urged the public to refrain from circulating videos of the event out of respect for the victims’ families and to facilitate the investigation process.
The collision serves as a somber reminder of the inherent risks associated with military operations and the sacrifices made by servicemen in the line of duty. As investigations unfold, the nation mourns the loss of lives and stands in solidarity with the affected families during this difficult time.
