West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced the expansion of the “Yogyashree” scheme, designed to provide free training to SC/ST students for engineering and medical entrance exams. With remarkable success in competitive exams, the scheme will now encompass students from Minority, OBC, and General categories.
“We are proud that our ‘Yogyashree’ scheme has been yielding increasingly greater benefits for our SC/ST boys & girls,” stated Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. “Now, we shall include boys and girls from Minority, OBC, and General categories in this scheme.”
In 2024 alone, “Yogyashree” trainees secured 23 ranks (including 13 IIT seats) in JEE (Advanced), 75 ranks in JEE(Main), 432 ranks in WBJEE, and 110 ranks in NEET. These achievements highlight the effectiveness of the scheme in empowering disadvantaged youth.
Considering the value of this critical training support, the number of centers in the state has been increased to 50, with 2000 supported trainees. Training will commence from Class XI onwards for better preparation.
“Let our boys and girls from the weaker sections become engineers and doctors in larger numbers,” Banerjee emphasized. “Kudos to them!” This expansion of the “Yogyashree” scheme underscores the government’s commitment to empowering youth from all backgrounds and fostering inclusive growth.
